Spotlight on:

Woodland Church of Christ
- Oxford, Connecticut -

In order to give you a broader picture of what God is doing in New England, this week's Spotlight is on a partner church. The Woodland Church of Christ has been served by Paul Rosebrock for 32 years.

Praises:

Ø Opportunity to minister to young families and children

Ø Faithful men who serve willingly

Ø Effective small weekly study groups

Petitions:

Ø Wise use of the building to minister to children

Ø Continued growth and commitment to leadership development

Ø Finding the right young man to serve as youth minister

The Woodland Church of Christ began in 1975 in the home of Paul and Madeline Rosebrock. By March of that year Woodland rented a school auditorium and in late 1977 purchased property in its present location in Oxford, Connecticut. In 1986 the church began construction on the first stage of a building project and in 2003 added a 4,000 square foot educational and fellowship facility. The existing worship area of the building seats 125 and currently services over 100 people weekly.

The Woodland church consists primarily of young families, with children accounting for nearly half of those in attendance. In order to open up more seating in the auditorium, Woodland is looking to start a children=s worship in the fellowship hall. Woodland also holds an annual VBS program which reaches anywhere from 60 to 80 children.

Home Bible Study
Group

A
s the church increases in number the commitment of its members is also growing. For the past three years the congregation has given over 20% of its funds to missions. Three weekly home Bible studies meet with an average of 15-20 people per group. The numerical growth of Woodland has been a result of those small study groups.

The congregation has four elders, all of whom can fill the pulpit when called upon. Woodland also has several other men who have preached in the past. All the men of the congregation are encouraged to share in the Call to Worship and Communion and Stewardship Meditations. Participation has been strong and results in a committed group of families.

Paul Rosebrock, who first ministered with a church in Ansonia, CT, in 1967, is currently the preaching minister with the Woodland Church of Christ. An active search is now underway, however, to secure a youth minister who may be groomed to step into the preaching ministry. The leadership of Woodland would like to see this accomplished by the beginning of 2008. If you know of someone who may be interested, please contact the church at woodland.church@sbcglobal.net.
