CMSU students in the common

Dear Friends,
As we talked about starting a church in Boston, many of you asked how people would hear about us. We hope that throughout the life of the church, we become known for the way we live out our faith.

This month our campus ministry partner, Sojourn, hosted a group of 14 students from Central Missouri State University. These students committed their spring break to helping us come alongside groups who are impacting lives in the city. We cleaned and organized at a church and mission/food pantry in Dorchester. The mission is bringing hope to a community reeling from the effects of violence, addictions and poverty. The students spent a day serving at a food bank so the organization could more effectively help those who struggle to simply find food. And we partnered with the Salvation Army for a day, serving the children of the homeless at a facility that cares for children while their parents are in school or looking for jobs. Additional groups are scheduled to come to Boston to help us serve as the church continues to build long term relationships with ministries and urban organizations: Big Brothers and Sisters, The Home for Little Wanderers (child welfare agency), Starlight Ministries (Homeless), and the Massachusetts Organization for Addiction Recovery.

We serve because the Gospel calls us to love and bless our city with *Generosity (one of our core values). There is a lot more to a church that reflects the heart of God than just serving, but if that is what we become known for, we think that's a good start.

For the Kingdom,

Hank, Mike, John, and Phil

For the Bostonians!
Off and Running
Launch Community Opening PrayerOn February 19 we hosted our first Launch Team gathering for the church in Boston. Thirty-four people (including eleven kids) joined us on one of the coldest evenings of the year at the Boston Worship Center. The team was tremendously encouraged by the community who gathered. To have this group together for the first time helped us to feel the momentum building as we work toward our launch September 24, 2006.

We will meet again on March 19. Join us if you are in Boston and are interested in exploring and shaping the direction of the future church. Simply email us if you would like details or directions.

The Movement
Introducing Alex Wilson
Alex Wilson and Amolee HawkinsWe want to introduce Hank and Julie Wilson's nine year-old daughter, Alex (on right, with friend Amolee Hawkins). There are eleven children who have relocated with the families of the partnership team. Every now and then it is important (and often profound) to look at church planting through the eyes of a child.

Why did your family move to Boston?

We moved to Boston to start a new church and teach people about God. A lot of people in Boston do not believe in God, so we need to start a new church to help them.

What is your favorite thing about Boston and what's different about living in the city?

I like the tall buildings the best because they are all different shapes, sizes, and colors. I love to look out my window at them. The city is always very busy. I hear a lot more sounds than I did before. I hear the ambulance, fire trucks and police sirens all the time.

What has been your favorite place to visit?

Dunkin Donuts is my favorite place to visit...just kidding! I love to walk up to Boston Common to play. There is a lot of open space to run and the playground there is really fun!

What excites you most about your new home?

[My brother] Trey and I will have our own floor! And dad says I can get a pet hamster. (I think she'll hold you to it Hank!)

Prayer...
The new Wilson homeMany of you have been praying for resolution to the Wilson mold fiasco. This month, another leak and potential source of mold was discovered in the living room. So it was time to look for other housing options. And we have good news. The Wilson's have found a home in South Boston and will be moving on March 30. It definitely needs lots of TLC (and we're not above accepting any help offered), but we are very excited about this new home that will provide enough room to house our family of six. Thank you for your prayers. This month, please pray for...

  • blessings on the closing and moving process and praise for the Wilson's home.
  • wisdom for the leadership as we choose a name for the church.
  • guidance in finding facilities for offices and gatherings.
  • financial support.
  • more people to join our launch team.

I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now... Phillipians 1:3-5

Financial Corner
More to come...
We have felt tremendous affirmation that Boston is where God wants us. There is significant need for churches in this remarkable city. God has been so faithful and we are confident that He will make a way for His church. One thing continues to be a challenge as we consider everything needed to establish a healthy foundation for the church...money. More than 100 individuals and dozens of churches have come alongside us with gifts or commitments, but we still have a ways to go. Additionally, many individuals have not been able to fulfill their monthly commitments to date. Restoration House has been a tremendous blessing as they have raised significant resources to help us get started.

In the next couple weeks, most of you will receive information from the Partnership. We will be asking individuals and churches who are not financial partners to consider whether this might be the time to join us as monthly supporters or with one-time gifts. To those partners who have made monthly commitments, we will send labels or envelopes to facilitate monthly giving. We will also contact more churches to seek additional partnerships.

We are exceptionally thankful for the generous outpouring we have experienced. We thank you all in advance for prayerfully considering your involvement as a financial partner.
