| Boston Partnership E-Update
September 2006
Dear Friends,
Fall is almost here! It's surreal to think we're this close to our launch. We are incredibly excited as all we've prayed and worked hard for is coming together. God has been very good to this little church startup.
Making plans and adjusting them seems to be the norm rather than the exception. Our most pressing challenge is uncertainty with our worship space. Contracting with the movie theater where we plan to have services has been delayed due to the sale of the theater. We’re submitting a contract on September 18th, when under new ownership, and hope to know as soon as possible. We would need to secure a temporary spot for weekly services if we are unable to get the theater for the launch service.
We've been so thankful for the Partnership. Every time we've asked for prayer, we've been blessed. We're definitely asking for your prayers on this one. Please pray that we secure a lease on or around September 15th that puts us in the theater for our October 15th launch. If it doesn't work out this way, we pray we will find an alternative and then get into the theater ASAP. We know God has something great in store for us, we're just trying to figure out what that is.
God bless and thank you,
Hank and the Boston Team
Launch Shower...
Help!!!
You may recall we recently mentioned an upcoming "Launch Shower". Well, the time has come. It is expensive to start a church, especially in Boston. In addition, an expected $15,000 in donated sound equipment fell through and we will need to raise those funds. Therefore, we want to offer anyone the opportunity to be financially involved in the launch of REUNION Christian Church.
So why is this called a "Launch Shower?" Good question. We have created a "registry", a wish list of sorts, allowing you to "purchase" items for the church and help defray start up costs. Here's how it works. Print the REGISTRY. Choose the item/items you would like to purchase and record them on the commitment card. Write a check to the Boston Partnership and send it, along with the registry, to the mailing address provided on the form.
Please contact us with any questions. The Partnership has done so much for us already. Please know that your gifts and prayers are a tremendous blessing to REUNION Christian Church.
What Happened to August?!?
Less than two months...
As October approaches, it appears that there is little hope for Red Sox Nation this year. With the season over, perhaps the city will be looking for something to do around October 15th (when we launch).
Launch is getting closer. Momentum is building. Here's an update:
- We had nearly 60 people attend our August 20th preview service (pictured above in Launch Shower article) and we remain encouraged by all the people God is sending our way.
- Five small groups are gathering weekly.
- Our second cookout was rained out twice forcing us to move the festivities indoors. Around 40 people braved wet weather to join us at the Boston Worship Center for dinner and good times.
- We are tremendously grateful for the work of short term missions teams from IN and FL (pictured above right) who helped us to serve local agencies and the people of Boston.
- We worked with our collegiate partner, Sojourn, to help college students move in to apartments and residence halls.
- Securing facilities remains challenging but it looks like we are getting very close to securing a spot in the Fenway theater and we have a contract in hand for office space in Kenmore Square.
Prayer...
As we near the launch of the church, we appreciate your prayers now more than ever. Thank you for supporting us on this adventure. This month, please pray for:
- A clean and expeditious sale of the Fenway theater so that we can move on our gathering facilities.
- Direction on how we might generously reach out to the city of Boston and its people.
- A successful Launch Shower to help defray costs associated with starting the church.
- More people to join our launch community.
"God would never choose for us safety at the cost of significance. God created you so that your life would count, not so that you could count the days of your life."
