The summer always seems to be drawing to a close after the Independence Day celebration. This year, we meet July 5th with mixed feelings...both looking forward to this next phase of life and ministry and already missing friendships and family.

As we enter into this next stage of ministry and life as a family, we are learning more of what it means to trust fully in God, and Paul's understanding of prayer that he shares with the Philippians (4:6).

The following updates are a few crucial points of prayer for the ministry and for our family.

Love and Peace,

Incorporating & Registering

Update from June Meetings

June 8th was our inaugural meeting of the board of directors for Sojourn Collegiate Ministries. The meeting was amazing as our directors from across the country met to plan for the future of Sojourn. Lutheran University Church in Harvard Sq. was a gracious host, and we had a great time together over the two/three days the board was together.

As we transition from a campus ministry plant to local incorporation, please continue to pray for God's favor legally as we file as an incorporated 501(c)3 this week as well as favor among the churches of New England as we partner with them to reach students throughout New England.

Boston & Warrensburg

Wisdom for Housing

We are now in a crucial phase in our housing situation. We have not yet rented our house in Warrensburg (which we hope to do before we leave).

We do believe, however, that we will be able to stay in our house in Somerville. Our other questions and prayers are where our kids will go to school, how much to spend on housing, our proximity to public transit, etc.

Obviously, this is the issue most pressing on our mind. Please pray that we would be obedient to God's leading, listen to His prompting and trust His timing for our housing needs.

Finally, Bobby and Nathan, two of our other staffers are also searching for housing closer to Boston University...please continue to pray for them in their search as well.

School & the Kids

This Summer

It has been a good summer for our family. The kids attended summer school here in Warrensburg, reconnected with friends and had an opportunity to see their extended family.

As mentioned above, Stephanie and I are seeking God about the right decision for schools for our children. Much of this depends on housing, where we are located, the opportunity for social interaction, chances to meet other families, etc.

Though we know God can provide in each of those areas, we are trying to seek what will be the most beneficial for our family. Please continue to seek God's leading for us in this decision.

This Fall

A Tentative Schedule

Two of our staff, Bobby and Kim, are already back in Boston. We hope to rejoin them somewhere between July 19-31. On July 16th I will be back in Boston for a community gathering of the church plant, and that morning, I'll be preaching at Crossway Christian Church in Nashua, NH.

Kim will continue to work at the Rec Center at Harvard. Bobby will continue to work at Starbucks and may take a class at Boston University, Nathan will be entering the School of Theology at Boston University, and I will be taking a class at Harvard Divinity in the fall.

I had a great meeting with the Director of the Chapel at Boston University on June 8, and looks very promising that we will be able to register and have a presence on campus this fall!

Fundraising

We have been blessed to continue to add supporters throughout the summer through minimal fundraising efforts. We need to raise an additional $2,000 a mo. for our own salary by December 31st.

Also, please continue to pray for all of our staff as they raise funds and for their salary, and as we raise funds for office space and operating expenses.

We are anticipating great things these next few years! The foundation has been laid, and we are ready to build upon it! Thank you for continuing to pray for our staff of SCM and the students in Boston.

Love and Peace,

Tim Hawkins
